The collapsing US military & economic empire is making Washington & NATO even more dangerous. US could not beat the Taliban but thinks it can take on China-Russia-Iran...a sign of psychopathology for sure. We must all do more to help stop this western corporate arrogance that puts the future generations lives in despair. @BruceKGagnon

Defending Sacred Hawai`i

Filmed on Mauna Kea June 24, 2015. Mahalo nui loa to everyone who shared their manaʻo.

The people are protesting construction of a Thirty Meter Telescope which would be one of the world's largest telescopes.

The billion-dollar project has drawn intense opposition from Native Hawaiians who say the 18-story observatory on the Big Island's Mauna Kea would desecrate land they consider sacred.

Mauna Kea is one of the tallest and most sacred mountains on Earth.  At 13,796 ft above sea level, it is the highest point in the Pacific Ocean.  Measured from its base at the bottom of the sea, it is the tallest mountain on Planet Earth.

Mauna Kea is the home of many gods and goddesses, and the site of many burials and shrines.

Mauna Kea holds a special place on Earth, as it stands as a place of peace and Aloha, not just for Hawai`i but for the world. Many sacred places of the world hold ancient wisdom bound in ritual and ceremony for this time in our history, to help us all heal ourselves and the world. Mauna Kea is one of those places. It is because Mauna Kea resides in Wao Akua--the realms of the Akua (God and Gods); and that it specifically does not reside in the realms of Na Kanaka (Man) that its sanctity is governed by the laws of the Heavens and not by the laws of Man. For it is only on Mauna Kea that one’s breath can be seized in a moment never to be returned.

I don't think that gazing at the heavens is antithetical to the spirituality of Mauna Kea. If looking into the mysterious world of the Past helps man to see more clearly the Present......
On the other hand, stealing a people's land---declaring their government no longer valid----is wrong on so many counts that I can understand why the protesters are pissed......but it seems misplaced anger to me.

If you are truly interested in Bernie Sanders' thoughts on any subject, you are free to tune in to Thom Hartmann's program every Friday at noon EST, where for more than 10 years, Sen. Sanders has appeared and taken calls on any subject. IF you truly are interested, that is.
